“I give you this to take with you:
Nothing remains as it was. If you know this, you can
begin again, with pure joy in the uprooting.”
-Judith Minty, Letters to my Daughters
Moving can be hard. Full of new; new address, new job, new home, new friends, new city. Moving can also be exciting for the new and bright things ahead. Growing up I lived in the same house for 18 years, that stability and rooted feeling was perfect for me. After high school I moved for the first time states away to Florida where I lived for 3 years, back to my home state, and then to a year in Mexico. As for now I am rooted back in my home state and we plan to be here for awhile.
While I stay rooted I’ve seen several friends come and go; moving for work, moving for family or simply moving for a desire to live elsewhere.
Today I have a fun going away gift for you to share with friends as they enter our lives in proximity, move away, but stay close in heart.
First, find a template of your state in the size of your choice. You can find pictures of your state online, magazines, maps, etc.
I found a perfectly sized 4″ picture of Kentucky from an outdoor magazine of my dad’s. Cut out your state for a template to use again and again.
Next, I traced my state template onto a gorgeous glitter scrapbook paper.
This adorable little glittery state can do lots of things now!
You can create a “Somebody loves me” card like this:
I made this card for a friend that recently moved away and could use a little love to know we are still thinking of her back here in Kentucky. Then, I got to looking through my craft supplies and found this wood sample from when we redid the flooring.
Hmm. You can pick up these wood flooring samples at any Lumber Liquidators, Lowes, or Home Depot.
Using hot glue to add my glittery state on this wood sample creates a cute desk accessory.
I went ahead and glued a blank note on the back so as to make this a mailable gift and less to pack for friends. Have fun with this easy and great sentiment craft. Friends may come and go in our lives as paths cross, but we can always keep memories and friendships close to heart no matter the distance.
